Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to take note of the work that will take place and prepare accordingly.

Maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements

Residents are advised to store enough water in advance as a precautionary measure. Water should be stored in clean, sealed containers. This precaution does not guarantee all residents will have a water disruption, but it aims to ensure they are able to prepare in the event it does occur.

Planned maintenance work will result in water supply disruption to these areas:

Waterstone Mall and Schoonenberg Estate – Somerset West
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to the Waterstone Mall and Schoonenberg Estate and possibly immediate surrounds on Monday, 3 November 2025, from 22:00 until completed. This will enable the maintenance team to safely replace the faulty 300mm diameter valve on the water main that supply these areas. Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to minimise the disruption. These areas will experience no water during this period.

Part of Rylands
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has appointed a contractor, Carp Civils, to conduct a pipe replacement project in Mabel Road and Middel Road, Rylands until 12 December 2025. This may result in brief intermittent flow disruptions. Construction will be undertaken using pipe cracking technology, which may result in some noise and inconvenience during the course of the works. Normal working hours will be from 08:00 until 17:00, Monday to Friday. Work may also be carried out on weekends and public holidays. Prior notice will be provided when water supply disruptions will happen. As part of the project, the water supply to Middel Road (between Duine Street and College Road) and possibly nearby roads in Rylands will be shut off temporarily from 09:00 to 18:00 on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, to transfer connections from the temporary bypass to the newly installed pipeline. A second shut-off will occur on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, during the same hours, to enable the replacement of a valve in Middel Road (between Duine Street and College Road) and in College Road (from Carnie Road to Ernest Road).

Golden Acre, Land En Zeezicht, Nature Valley and Morningside in Bizweni – Somerset West
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to these areas and possibly the immediate surrounds on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, from 10:00 until 18:00, to install a bulk water meter on water supply main to these areas. These areas will experience no water during this period.

Part of Woodstock
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply from Hyde Street to Sir Lowry Road between Searle Street and Russel Street including Chapel Street, Gray Street, St. Phillips Street, Frances Street, Pontac Street, Nelson Street and possibly immediate surrounds on Wednesday, 5 November 2025, from 09:00 until 18:00 when a bypass connection will be installed to accommodate the upgrade of the roadways in the area. The area will experience no water during these periods.

Part of Wynberg
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply in part of Wynberg on Wednesday, 5 November 2025 from 08:00 until 18:00. The work involves connecting the newly installed water pipeline along Cogill Road and Egglestone Road to the existing water supply infrastructure. The area affected by the shut-off will be Cogill Road, Egglestone Road, Benjamin Road, Wellington Road and possibly the surrounds in Wynberg. These areas will experience no water during this period.

Table View, West Beach, Parklands, Flamingo Vlei, Blouberg Rise, Bloubergrant, Sunridge and West Riding
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply to these areas from 21:00 on Thursday, 6 November 2025, until 05:00 on Friday, 7 November 2025. This will enable the maintenance team to safely install a valve and bulk water meter on the water supply main to these areas. Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to minimise the disruption. These areas will experience no water during this period.

Part of Fish Hoek
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will temporarily shut off the water supply in parts of Fish Hoek on Thursday, 6 November 2025 from 08:30 until 18:30. The work forms part of the pipe replacement project in the area and involves the installation of a control valve at the intersection of Berg Road and Pass Road to the existing water supply infrastructure. The area affected by the shut-off are bounded by Kommetjie Main Road, Pass Road, Ranger Road, Highway Road and possibly immediate surrounds.

This work forms part of the Water and Sanitation Directorate’s proactive infrastructure maintenance and upgrade programme, which ensures the future continuity of water supply by addressing the issue of unaccounted for water.

Zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments will be done on the water supply network resulting in water supply disruptions in the following areas:

Tuesday, 4 November 2025, from 10:00 until 16:00: Kraaifontein, Peerless Park and Eikendal.

Wednesday, 5 November 2025, from 09:00 until 17:00: Retreat and Steenberg.

Wednesday, 5 November 2025, from 09:00 until 17:00: Vredekloof, Welgelee, Arauna, Morgenster, St Kilda, Marlborough Park, Brackenfell Industrial and Okavango Park.

Zero-pressure testing and step-testing are part of the installation process for zone management infrastructure. Tests are done in advance to see if any unmapped inflows need to be considered before installing new infrastructure (such as pressure-reducing valves for pressure management).

In these affected areas, some residents may experience low water pressure while some may have no water during the testing period. Unfortunately, it is not possible to predict which exact areas or streets will experience disruptions.

Additional zone management investigations will be carried out to ensure that the existing infrastructure is operating effectively. Pressure fluctuations may be experienced, but every effort will be made to minimise the impact as far as possible.
This work forms part of the City’s Water Demand Management Strategy. Managing water pressure more effectively reduces the possibility of pipe bursts and water wastage.

The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience.

What residents need to know about larger-scale planned water supply disruptions:

1. Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to ensure it is being done at a time that is least disruptive to the water supply.
2. All sites where water and sanitation repairs and upgrades are conducted are deemed to be construction sites and, as such, are off-limits to members of the public.
3. Sometimes the maintenance work can be more complex than anticipated, which means the work could take longer.
4. For a short period after the supply has been restored, the water may be discoloured or look milky. This is because of trapped air in the pipes. If left to stand in a glass, the appearance will become clear, like normal.

For updates on the maintenance work (and location of tankers where applicable), follow @CityofCTAlerts which is a City of Cape Town X account.

How residents are advised to prepare for planned water supply disruptions:

1. Store enough water in clean, sealed containers in advance for use during this period.
2. Keep your taps closed to prevent any water loss and/or damage when the water supply is restored.
| 2025-11-01T22:00:00Z | GP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891d | | | | | GP0|#42305b06-67ec-4657-9272-641a0ea14201;L0|#042305b06-67ec-4657-9272-641a0ea14201|water supply;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb | 1 | | | | | | | | | | Media Office, City of Cape Town | 0 |
