Planned water supply maintenance for 11 to 16 March 2025Planned water supply maintenance for 11 to 16 March 2025
The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will be doing planned work in the identified areas, which will result in water supply disruption. This critical maintenance work is done on our water supply infrastructure to benefit customers. Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to take note of the work that will take place and prepare accordingly.

Maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs and replacements
Residents are advised to store enough water in advance, as a precautionary measure. Water should be stored in clean, sealed containers.

Planned maintenance work will result in water supply disruption to these areas:

Goodwood, Parow Valley, Klipkop and Ravensmead – Cancelled
The water supply to these areas will no longer be shut off temporarily from 08:00 on Saturday, 8 March 2025, until 20:00 on Sunday, 9 March 2025. During the assessment, it was determined that Goodwood was not affected and that work to be done would have to be split into two sections to minimise the impact on consumers due to valves not closing fully.

Part of Hout Bay
The water supply to a section of Valley Road and Bethal Street and immediate surrounds in Hout Bay will be shut off temporarily from 07:30 until 17:00 on Tuesday, 11 March 2025. This will enable the safe connection of the newly-installed water pipelines to the existing water supply infrastructure in Valley Road and Bethal Street.

Part of Kommetjie
The water supply to Aloe Road, Lighthouse Road, Nerina Avenue, Clan Monroe Avenue and surrounds in Kommetjie will be shut off temporarily from 08:00 until 17:00, on Tuesday, 11 March 2025. This will enable the safe connection of the newly-installed water pipelines to the existing water supply infrastructure in Lighthouse Road.

Eerste River
The water supply to the area will be shut off temporarily from 11:00 until 16:00 on Tuesday, 11 March 2025. This will enable the maintenance team to do an assessment of a valve leading off the wain water supply to the area. The whole of Eerste River will be affected. The impacted area could unfortunately not be reduced due to passing valves in the water supply network. Water tankers will be made available to provide water for domestic use where required.

Bellville, Parow, Parow West and Plattekloof
The water supply to the Nassau Reservoir and pump station will be shut off temporarily from 08:00 on Saturday, 15 March 2025, until 08:00 on Sunday, 16 March 2025. This will enable the maintenance team to install a new bulk water meter on the 535mm diameter water main to the Nassau Reservoir. The reservoir will be filled in advance.

Consumers in these areas are kindly requested to reduce their water consumption during this period.

All affected consumers are kindly advised to store water in clean, sealed containers ahead of the disruption to ensure adequate supply.

Maintenance work – water meter assessments

This work involves shutting off the water supply through the large diameter zone water meter temporarily and directing the flow through the bypass to enable the technical team to inspect the condition of the water meter. No water supply disruption will occur other than a possible temporary water pressure fluctuation.
Bulk zone water meter assessments will be done in the following areas:

Wednesday, 12 March 2025
• Steenberg bounded by Main Road (M4), Military Road, Kayser River and Lakeside Wetlands
• Murdock Valley – Simon’s Town
• Kirstenhoff

Thursday, 13 March 2025
• Vrygrond
• Ocean View
• Lavender Hill

This work forms part of the Water and Sanitation Directorate’s proactive infrastructure maintenance and upgrade programme, which ensures the future continuity of water supply by addressing the issue of unaccounted for water.

The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience.

What residents need to know about larger-scale planned water supply disruptions:
1. Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to ensure it is being done at a time that is least disruptive to the water supply.
2. All sites where water and sanitation repairs and upgrades are conducted are deemed to be construction sites and, as such, are off-limits to members of the public.
3. Sometimes the maintenance work can be more complex than anticipated, which means the work could take longer.
4. For a short period after the supply has been restored, the water may be discoloured or look milky. This is because of trapped air in the pipes. If left to stand in a glass, the appearance will become clear, like normal.

For updates on the maintenance work (and location of tankers where applicable), follow @CityofCTAlerts which is a City of Cape Town X account.

How residents are advised to prepare for planned water supply disruptions:
1. Store enough water in clean, sealed containers in advance for use during this period.
2. Keep your taps closed to prevent any water loss and/or damage when the water supply is restored.

2025-03-06T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#42305b06-67ec-4657-9272-641a0ea14201;L0|#042305b06-67ec-4657-9272-641a0ea14201|water supply;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#0c4188de-8fd0-4c65-ad50-f8de6fb0dd9c;L0|#00c4188de-8fd0-4c65-ad50-f8de6fb0dd9c|repairs and maintenance;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#d45c4978-b3f4-402c-b248-6ebd1a0065ec;L0|#0d45c4978-b3f4-402c-b248-6ebd1a0065ec|Water and sanitation directorate;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb10
