MyCiTi Woodstock station rebuilt and now fully operational after fire damage

Today, 16 November 2023, the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas, visited the newly refurbished MyCiTi Woodstock station to see the work the team has done to restore the station over the last six months. The station was rebuilt after extensive damage caused by a stationary bus that caught alight at the station in February 2022. 

After conducting a thorough assessment of the station after the fire in February 2022, the City of Cape Town's Urban Mobility Directorate established that 80 % of the Woodstock MyCiTi station was severely damaged and had to be rebuilt.

'Upon my visit to the Woodstock station today I was pleased to see the quality of work the team has delivered in rebuilding and restoring this key station along our MyCiTi trunk route. The station looks impeccable and despite various challenges, the team were able to complete this rebuild project to the desired standards within six months.

'The station is now fully operational again thanks to the excellent teamwork between the City staff members and contractors. I know our commuters who work and travel in this vicinity are very relieved to have access to their station again,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
