Montague Drive will be reopened to traffic in phases as sections of the roadway are reinstated. The entire project is intended to be completed in just a few weeks - by mid-June 2024.

|

<span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:"century gothic", sans-serif;">The first of the 12 consecutive collapses on Montague Drive in
Milnerton occurred in August 2023 at multiple points in the
50-year-old 900mm fibre cement bulk sewer pipeline, which runs underground at a
depth of five metres. The City then appointed a contractor to
assist with emergency repairs to the sewer, which were completed in January
2024. Road reinstatement was the last phase needed to call the project to a
close.

The City budgeted approximately R2,5 million for the reinstatement phase of this major/multiple repair. We share the frustration of the residents and business owners and thank them for their patience during this process. Every effort is being made to open at least one lane in the southbound carriageway as soon as possible. City teams will monitor the progress of the road reinstatements very closely until the work has been completed,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation, Councillor Zahid Badroodien.

<span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:"century gothic", sans-serif;">End

| 2024-06-02T22:00:00Z | GP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891d | | | | | GP0|#a3ac5825-3464-4e1b-a58b-75c8b257d806;L0|#0a3ac5825-3464-4e1b-a58b-75c8b257d806|water & sanitation;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#36a1168d-a508-46b6-bc80-b2e9f2f35a0b;L0|#036a1168d-a508-46b6-bc80-b2e9f2f35a0b|Community and Society;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb | 1 | | | | | | | | | | | 0 |
