Mayor's Craft Market returns to Cape Town Civic Centre

19 November 2024

After a long break, the popular Mayor’s Craft Market will be making its return to the Cape Town Civic Centre next week, from Wednesday, 27 November until Friday, 29 November 2024. Locally handmade and pre-packaged goods will be for sale on the concourse level of the Cape Town Civic Centre.

‘This market is part of the Mayor’s Skills Development and Poverty Alleviation Programme and it offers registered vendors a free opportunity to sell their goods to City staff as well as members of the public visiting the Civic Centre. The market’s impact on local livelihoods, since its first run in September 2010, has been profound,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services, Alderman Theresa Uys.

‘Many participating crafters, especially those from disadvantaged communities, have relied on the market as a significant source of income to support their families and build small businesses. Staff members also value the opportunity to connect with and support local artisans. The support over the years has been greatly appreciated and we will continue to support our local traders,’ said Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis.

Aligned with the City’s vision of ‘A City of Hope for All,’ the Mayor’s Craft Market is a powerful platform for promoting economic opportunity and social cohesion.

Over 40 traders will display and sell their goods over the three-day market.
