Law enforcement officers arrested three suspects for theft after they pretended to be City officials to gain access to properties.</p> | <span><p>The swift reaction by Law Enforcement officers on Saturday, 22 February 2025, led to the arrest of three suspects pretending to be City officials in Walmer Estate, Woodstock after officers followed up on information.<br><br>Earlier the day, the suspects gained access to a property in Camps Bay after they flashed fake credentials and were let into the home where they stole various items such as a laptop, cell phone and a wallet. A case of robbery was opened at Camps Bay South African Police Service(SAPS). <br><br>The suspects were caught a while later trying the same scam in Walmer Estate. Law Enforcement officers were informed by the community group while busy with patrols in Woodstock and reacted immediately, tracing the suspects and apprehending them. <br>The suspects were taken to Camps Bay where they were detained. The vehicle used in crimes was confiscated and impounded at SAPS Bellville. <br><br>Further investigation showed that the suspects are linked to other incidents in Kuils River, Manenberg and Walmer Estate. <br>In other successes, Law Enforcement officers arrested 239 suspects and issued 8 039 notices for various transgressions during the past week.</p>

<img class="responsive" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/WOPS%2024225%201.jpeg" alt="" style="width:828px;" /> </figure></span><span><p>The City’s Traffic Service issued 58 883 notices, impounded 319 public transport vehicles and executed 1 091 warrants of arrest.<br><br>They also made 39 arrests, of which 16 were for driving under the influence, nine for reckless and negligent driving and 14 for other transgressions, such as a stolen vehicle, submitting false documentation, and assaulting an officer.<br><br>The Metro Police Department made 87 arrests, including 29 for drunk driving and 37 for the illegal possession of drugs. <br>On Sunday night, 23 February 2025, Metro Police officers followed up on a Shotspotter alert while on patrol in Manenberg. <br><br>When officers arrived at the identified area, they noticed a male suspect acting suspicious when he saw the patrol vehicles. The suspect attempted to flee, but was apprehended and found in possession of a .38 Special revolver with the serial number still intact, with six spent cartridges and one live 9mm round. The 30-year-old suspect was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and discharging of a firearm in a municipal area. He was detained at Manenberg SAPS.<br><br>On Saturday, 22 February 2025, officers on patrol in the same area received information from a member of the public about a suspect carrying an unlicensed firearm. Officers identified the adult male in Pam Road and while approaching the suspect, he threw the firearm under the patrol vehicle. The 27-year-old suspect was arrested and detained at Manenberg SAPS for the unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm.</p>

One example is the Neighbourhood Watch app, which we are rolling out across the City.
