Enhanced cleansing programme at City’s Atlantis CRUs | Enhanced cleansing programme at City’s Atlantis CRUs | | <img alt="" src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/PublishingImages/Debt%20Management%20for%20tenants%20Header.jpg" style="BORDER:0px solid;" /> | <p>The City’s enhanced cleaning programme at Community Residential Units (CRUs) kicked off in the Avondale area of Atlantis today, 7 December 2022. The programme, part of the City’s broader CRU maintenance and upgrade programme, aims to improve the living conditions of residents at affordable housing units across the metro.<br></p> | <div>‘The City is carrying out ongoing maintenance, enhanced cleaning, and disinfection in and around units at its rental housing. This work will also be carried out in areas across the metro at Ndabeni, Hout Bay, Brackenfell, Scottsdene, Macassar, Strand, Ocean View, Grassy Park, Ottery and Lotus River. The project will make use of local labour from the various communities where it is being carried out. In addition, the local employees will receive certification, which will serve as formal recognition for their learnt expertise.</div><div><br></div><div>‘The well-being of our residents is our priority and we are doing everything we can to ensure their health and safety. This cleansing programme, including vector control, forms part of the City's enhanced basic service delivery, which aims to create and maintain healthier living spaces for our residents,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Malusi Booi.<br></div><div><span><p><br></p><figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"><img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Centre/af9e65df-2fd3-4c43-806a-96ac1af5a348.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:1069px;" /> </figure></span>In the past five years, more than 40 000 CRU tenants have benefitted from R2 billion in maintenance and upgrades. The City has transferred ownership of more than 60 000 of its rental stock units to long-standing tenants to date, with around 7 700 units still available for sale and transfer to eligible tenants.
