City’s Title Deeds drive goes to Mandela ParkCity’s Title Deeds drive goes to Mandela Park
The City’s Human Settlements Department’s Title Deeds Drive visited the residents of Mandela Park and Town 2, Khayelitsha today, 21 June 2023. This roadshow aims to encourage beneficiaries of historic housing programmes, including old RDP projects, to claim their title deeds.

‘It is important that beneficiaries come forward to claim their title deeds as this will assist qualifying beneficiaries in formalising their ownership and will provide them with security of tenure. Since 2013, the City has delivered more than 12 000 historic title deeds to beneficiaries in a number of areas in the metro. As new human settlements projects are completed, title deeds are handed over. The challenge is the projects which were completed 10 or 20 years ago where beneficiaries have not come forward and where these beneficiaries have changed their contact details or are not residing in Cape Town any longer. The City calls on all residents who have not yet claimed their title deeds to come forward and to approach us for more information. We are also focusing our communication on areas outside of Cape Town in an effort to reach beneficiaries that no longer live within the metro.

‘We remain firmly on track with positioning our human settlements programmes as catalysts for meaningful economic growth in our communities. It is my personal commitment to unlock opportunities through our human settlements programmes. A title deed is much more than just a piece of paper, it is a way of unlocking opportunities for families, their loved ones and for the future generations. Over the next few months, the City will be in a number of communities and we encourage residents to visit the title deeds initiative when it reaches their area. The roadshow is about building hope and is empowering residents as property owners,’ said Alderman James Vos, the City’s Acting Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements.

The City kicked off its Title Deeds Drive earlier this month where beneficiaries of housing opportunities are able to collect their title deeds from the City. The opportunities include serviced sites as well as Breaking New Ground (BNG) homes, and some older projects where title deeds have never been collected including for the older ‘RDP’ projects. Tracing and tracking beneficiaries of older housing projects is a challenge as many are no longer living in Cape Town or there are no current contact details available for them.

For more information:

• Visit a City Housing Office

• Contact the Human Settlements Call Centre: 021 444 0333

• WhatsApp: 064 299 9927

End

2023-06-20T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#d662b000-ebd9-4cff-8d9f-ae22c105ed6c;L0|#0d662b000-ebd9-4cff-8d9f-ae22c105ed6c|title deed;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#0d8b7293-a214-43fa-80da-d843dd6f8e82;L0|#00d8b7293-a214-43fa-80da-d843dd6f8e82|human settlements;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#a4eccbe6-2bec-49aa-ad58-8ed41a372c82;L0|#0a4eccbe6-2bec-49aa-ad58-8ed41a372c82|housing;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb10
