We ask residents to bear with us during this challenging time.

Teams are currently battling to clear backlogs that have developed so far, however, the workforce has been thinned by illness/fatigue, transport challenges and other impacts of the treacherous conditions. This is slowing progress.

High winds and storm damage are also affecting operations at disposal facilities, and the movement of compactors along our roads. Flooding and forecasted rainfall over the rest of the week/weekend will also continue to hinder us.

UPDATES ON SERVICES

Collections (Formal areas)

All formal residents could experience delayed collection, If you are affected please take your bin out each day until it is collected. Currently, delays are not extending beyond one day in most cases i.e. refuse is being picked up the day after scheduled collection. Teams will work over the weekend to clear any backlog that still exists at the close of business on Friday, 12 July.

Please also note some areas that cannot currently be serviced due to flooding include, but are not limited to the following. Certain residents in these and other worst-affected areas have to bear with us until flooding subsides. The City is monitoring the situation and will clear uncollected refuse as soon as possible.

Manenberg between the boundaries of Old Lansdowne Road, Duinefontein Road, Klipfontein Road and Aries Street. This includes Bellville, Athlone, Elsies River and Delft

The City is working on contingencies to ensure service delivery as far as possible. For instance, moving vehicles out of flood-prone storage facilities where possible, or using smaller crews on each vehicle.

Collections (Informal Settlements)

Flooding did prevent access to shipping containers or certain households in many areas, however services have since resumed. In the case of further flooding/disruption we ask affected residents - please don't resort to dumping. Your refuse will be collected when the flooding has subsided. Teams are standing by to commence with mop-up operations as soon as conditions allow.

Drop-offs

The Schaapkraal Drop-off is currently closed due to flooding.

The garden greens section of Tygerdal Drop-off was closed for the same reason but has since been able to re-open. Should flooding re-occur it may be necessary to close the facility again, in which case Tygerdal drop-off users can make use of neighbouring facilities, Welgelegen, De Grendel and Kensington.

Reminders:

If you are struggling with containing all household refuse in the wheelie bin due to delayed collection, we advise that recycling and composting can help.

Residents can find helpful information on how to compost and recycle on the City's website: capetown.gov.za/Family and home/greener-living/recycling-at-home/recycling-guide and capetown.gov.za/Family and home/greener-living/green-gardening-and-eating/start-composting-at-home

The City's Urban Waste Management Directorate sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused during this time and will make every effort to service your property as soon as possible.

End

| 2024-07-10T22:00:00Z | GP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891d | | | | | GP0|#36a1168d-a508-46b6-bc80-b2e9f2f35a0b;L0|#036a1168d-a508-46b6-bc80-b2e9f2f35a0b|Community and Society;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#30dd8f25-92b1-4698-88d7-6dcdeb3d56c1;L0|#030dd8f25-92b1-4698-88d7-6dcdeb3d56c1|waste and cleaning;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb | 1 | | | | | | | | | | | 0 |
