City commences with road resurfacing in Somerset West

27 March 2024

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate advises residents of resurfacing roadworks along many roads in Somerset West. The project commenced this week. The City aims to complete the work over the next two months, provided there are no unforeseen delays.

The roadworks will include resurfacing and road marking and will take place between 07:30 and 17:00 from Monday to Friday.

The following roads have been included in this project:

  • Drama Street
  • Parel Vallei Road
  • Solomon Street
  • Jakaranda Street
  • South Avenue
  • Meadow Lane
  • Lourensford Road
  • Vergelegen Street
  • Coldicott Avenue
  • Marais Street
  • Voortrekker Road
  • Schapenberg Road
  • Coronation Avenue
  • Reservoir Street
  • Van der Merwe Street
  • Hendriksz Road
  • Silverboomkloof Road
  • Stellenhof Street
  • Columbus Steet
  • Audas Street
  • Cabernet Drive

'I am encouraged to see that our Road Infrastructure Management teams are making progress with all the road resurfacing and maintenance in this district. It is very important that this work gets done ahead of the winter rains. Soon the residents in Somerset West will benefit from improved road safety conditions along all of these roads and just a better commuter experience in the area overall,' said the City's Mayoral Committee member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The City of Cape Town recommends that road users be cautious in and around the roadworks area and look out for uneven road surfaces.
