City advises of water supply disruptions in Khayelitsha

The Water and Sanitation Department will be doing permanent repairs to the 600mm diameter water mains supplying Khayelitsha. Temporary repairs were done in December 2020 as an emergency measure until this work could be planned and executed.

The repairs involves deep-trench excavation and shoring of the sides of the excavated trench to ensure safe working conditions for the maintenance crew.

This work will result in residents across Khayelitsha being without water on Tuesday, 18 May 2021 from 08:00 until 18:00.

Residents are kindly requested to store water upfront in clean, sealed containers for use during this period. Residents are also requested to ensure that all taps are closed to prevent water loss and/or damage when the supply is restored.

Water tankers will be roaming through the areas to provide water where required during this period.

The City regrets any inconvenience caused, however, this work is necessary to ensure the water supply remains reliable.
