City advises of emergency repairs under way of the Steenbras water pipeline

13 September 2022

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate is currently conducting emergency repairs on its 840mm diameter Steenbras bulk water pipeline in the Helderberg area. This has necessitated the shutting off of the water supply in this pipeline to enable the maintenance team to do the repairs safely.

This bulk water supply pipeline to the Newlands Reservoir has developed a serious leak in the Helderberg area and is currently being repaired by the Water and Sanitation maintenance team. The repairs involves excavating and draining the area and a section of the pipeline as well as replacing the damaged section of the pipe before the water flow can be restored.

The Water and Sanitation maintenance team will be working throughout the night to complete the repairs which is anticipated to be completed by tomorrow morning. They have also rerouted water supply to the areas in the network which are impacted by the supply,

Consumers in the Helderberg area are however kindly requested to reduce their consumption while the repairs are in progress to ensure sustained water supply and pressure across the network

The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused, however it is imperative that it maintains its water supply infrastructure for the benefit of its consumers.
