City advises of changes to bagged recycling collection service

Residents should be informed that this will not affect recycling collection in areas with a green lid bin. Refuse collection in these areas will continue at a weekly frequency for the moment, once a replacement contractor has been appointed. Please see this <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/Media-and-news/Contractor%20withdraws%20from%20green-lid%20recycling%20services" target="_blank">media release</a> for context/background on the current service disruption to green lid bins. Changes for areas with a bagged waste collection service will come into effect with the implementation of new contracts for recycling collection on 1 September. The following areas will benefit from the collection of bagged recycling as of 1 September: Atlantic Collections Area: <ul><li>Hout Bay along to the Atlantic Seaboard to Green Point/Sea Point and Three Anchor Bay and Surrounds</li><li>Parklands, Parklands North, Sunningdale, Tableview, Bloubergstrand, Melkbosstrand and Duynefontein </li></ul>Two Oceans Collections Area:<ul><li>Lakeside southwards along the coastline to Cape Point and over the mountain including Noordhoek, Sunnydale and Kommetjie.</li><li>Marina Da Gama</li></ul>Please also be advised that the service will be extended to the remainder of Muizenberg (up to Prince George Drive), the remainder of Lakeside, Stonehurst Estate, and Kirstenhof and Frogmore Estate up to Tokai Road. Impuma Collections Area:<ul><li>Heldeberg Area : Strand, Somerset West, Gordons Bay, Macassar, Nomzamo, Chris Nissen, Lwandle and surrounds</li></ul>Residents in these areas should please keep an eye on their post box as contractors will be dropping off starter packs specifying the days/weeks which households should put their recycling out for collection. Residents in participating areas should also please note changes in the appointed service providers to carry out the service. From 1 September, service providers assigned to each area will be as follows:<ul><li>Atlantic Area : Wastewant (Pty) Ltd</li><li>Two Oceans Area : Wastemart (Pty) Ltd</li><li>Impuma Area Ngcokoto General Trading CC</li></ul>'We encourage everyone who has the opportunity to participate in Think Twice Programme and divert waste from landfill. Further rollout of a dry recycling collection service to other suburbs is currently constrained by a shortage of sorting capacity in the City, but new sorting facilities are planned in coming years. The Think Twice service will be extended to new customers as these facilities are operational,' said Alderman Grant Twigg, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management. .In the meantime, those who do not reside within the abovementioned catchment areas are encouraged to drop off all their clean recyclables, garden waste, builders rubble and bulky items or garage waste at one of the City's <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/Explore%20and%20enjoy/See-all-city-facilities/our-service-facilities/Drop-off%20facilities" target="_blank">drop-off sites</a>. Information on private recycling collectors, drop-off sites and buyback centres, is also available on the City's <a href="http://web1.capetown.gov.za/web1/wasterec/map" target="_blank">waste recyclers map</a>.
