The new Clean Up and Recycle Project was also launched in Macassar. <br></p><p></p><span><p>The City's Urban Waste Management (UWM) Directorate is happy to report that Bingo, our beloved anti-litter mascot, is having a very productive Global Recycling Day, spreading joy and environmental consciousness across various locations in Cape Town.</p><p> </p><p>Bingo kicked off his day at Sinako High School in Khayelitsha from 08:00 to 09:00, where he engaged students in interactive activities centred around recycling. From there, he journeyed to Dennegeur Primary School in Strandfontein, continuing his mission with the younger learners from 09:00 to 10:00. </p><p> </p> <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/DSC_8987.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:949px;" /> </figure></span><span><p>The UWM Directorate, in collaboration with the Western Cape Department of Local Government and the Community Development Workers Programme (CDWP), joined hands with the community, to launch the Clean Up and Recycle Project with a clean-up of a dumping hotspot in the area. </p><p> </p><p>The Clean Up and Recycle project aims to raise awareness about recycling and City drop-off sites through community workshops. In total, eight communities will be engaged. <br></p> <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/DSC_9108.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:935px;" /> </figure></span>Community members around the following locations, who are tired of the littering and dumping in their areas, are encouraged to get involved in workshops on the dates listed below. Let's present a united front against waste and illegal dumping:<div><br><span><table cellspacing="0" width="100%" class="ms-rteTable-default"><tbody><tr><td class="ms-rteTable-default" style="width:50%;"><strong>Date</strong></td><td class="ms-rteTable-default" style="width:50%;"><strong>Location</strong></td></tr><tr><td class="ms-rteTable-default">4 April 2024</td><td class="ms-rteTable-default">White House, Green Point in Khayelitsha </td></tr><tr><td class="ms-rteTable-default">9 April 2024</td><td class="ms-rteTable-default">Mfuleni Library </td></tr><tr><td class="ms-rteTable-default">11 April 2024 </td><td class="ms-rteTable-default">Nomzamo Community Hall </td></tr><tr><td class="ms-rteTable-default">17 April 2024 </td><td class="ms-rteTable-default">BM White House, Site B </td></tr><tr><td class="ms-rteTable-default">18 April 2024</td><td class="ms-rteTable-default">Blackheath Hall </td></tr><tr><td class="ms-rteTable-default">23 April 2024 </td><td class="ms-rteTable-default">Hillcrest Civic </td></tr><tr><td class="ms-rteTable-default">25 April 2024 </td><td class="ms-rteTable-default">Macassar Old Civic </td></tr><tr><td class="ms-rteTable-default">30 April 2024</td><td class="ms-rteTable-default">Sir Lowry's Pass Library<br></td></tr></tbody></table><p><br></p> <figure class="subtopic-fullsize-img"> <img src="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Images%202/ibonog.jpg" class="responsive" alt="" style="width:949px;" /> </figure></span><p>In addition to Bingo's travels and activities for Global Recycling Day, the City, in collaboration with the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa, facilitated an enlightening tour of the Kraaifontein Integrated Waste Management facility. This initiative saw students from various schools in Langa and Khayelitsha visiting the facility to gain insights into the importance of responsible waste disposal and recycling, and to hopefully be inspired to recycle. </p><p>'Global Recycling Day serves as a poignant reminder of the crucial role each individual plays in preserving our planet for future generations. Through these initiatives, the City of Cape Town aims to inspire a collective commitment to sustainably change the culture of waste among our citizens. </p><p>'Residents are encouraged to recycle where possible. The City has various drop-off facilities, which accept recyclables. Please visit the City's website to find a drop-off facility nearest to you,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg. <br></p><p><br></p><p><strong>End</strong><br></p><p><br></p></div>2024-03-17T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#8734a1c1-e63b-41d0-a172-cb70cf65694a;L0|#08734a1c1-e63b-41d0-a172-cb70cf65694a|waste;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GPP|#68b084a3-f238-4e33-8c08-97910537f68d;GPP|#ae19c2bf-06c6-40b2-9faa-4ba4f85f4bed;GPP|#488a252c-b852-4f59-b559-f191cb367380;GP0|#3bfc38ae-5d8f-4c08-b634-76e27ca72db3;L0|#03bfc38ae-5d8f-4c08-b634-76e27ca72db3|drop off;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb10
