International partnerships with the City of Cape Town
The City of Cape Town has entered into various partnerships and agreements with global cities and other international stakeholders to boost knowledge sharing, stimulate our local economy, and empower local communities through joint projects. These agreements attract investors, skills, and resources to Cape Town’s economy, and make it possible for the City to bring the best resources to the areas and people who need them the most. The ultimate objective of these partnerships and agreements is to improve the lives of Cape Town’s residents.
Strategic International Relations Policy
The City’s
Strategic International Relations Policy, was adopted in 2015 and guides the City of Cape Town’s international relations according to the
Implementation Framework of the Policy.
The Policy aims to enhance Cape Town’s global profile as an attractive city to visit, live in and do business with. The Policy also aims to take advantage of South Africa’s ascension to the BRICS group of countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa), which encourages economic growth in Africa and will bring tremendous economic opportunities for the city.
The Policy is aligned with the strategic aims of the City, as identified in the
Integrated Development Plan.
International partnership agreements
The City has entered into partnership agreements with a number of external governments and organisations. These agreements establish mutually beneficial relations to promote economic growth through trade and investment with the City’s international counterparts.
The City currently has partnerships with various cities and countries in Africa, the European Union, the Americas, Asia and Eurasia. These agreements promote exchanges of City development initiatives, incentives for business and investment, and the development of green industry and technology, among other things.
