Boxing and martial arts

Many of our sport and recreation centres offer boxing or martial arts classes as part of their sports programmes. Find out more about our programmes below.

Boxing

Boxing classes   
Join one of our boxing classes and learn how to spar, be quick on your feet and throw a good punch, while getting your heart rate up and improving your reflexes. Boxing coaches provide punching bags and boxing gloves and instruct members in basic training. 

The following facilities host this programme:

Kickboxing classes
Kickboxing is developed from Karate and involves kicking and punching. Join the programme to get fit, tone up and build muscle.
 
The programme currently takes place at Rebecca Van Amsterdam Hall.
 

Martial arts

Judo classes
Join a Judo class taught by a Western Province Judo champion. Judo is a modern martial art where you learn moves to unbalance your opponent.The sport requires concentration and trains both the body and the mind. People of all ages are welcome.

The programme takes place at Beacon Valley Hall.

Karate classes
A number of our facilities offer Karate classes taught by trained instructors or teachers knowledgeable about this martial art. Specific classes include Karate Santori at Mandalay Hall and Funjain Goju Ryn Karate at Sarepta Sport and Recreation Centre, as well as more traditional Karate classes at other facilities. People of all ages are welcome.

Tae Bo
Tae Bo is a fitness activity that works the whole body and is guaranteed to get you fit. Each facility offers different types of Tae Bo classes. Currently, ladies Tae Bo is offered at Beacon Valley Hall.
