Vulnerable groups programmes

<div class="ExternalClassE364A2BB1B454828BEC1ACDFBD2F659C"><p>The City’s <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/Departments/Community%2c%20Arts%20and%20Culture%20Development">Community, Arts and Culture Development (CACD) Department</a> partners with registered NGOs, NPOs, CBOs, Provincial Department of Social Development and other spheres of government to provide awareness campaigns and training programmes for <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/local%20and%20communities/community-building-and-upliftment/be-an-active-resident/support-for-vulnerable-groups">vulnerable groups</a> in line with our <a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Bylaws%20and%20policies/Vulnerable%20Groups%20-%20%28Policy%20number%2012399A%29%20approved%20on%2004%20December%202013.pdf" target="_blank">Vulnerable Groups Policy, 2013</a>.<br></p></div>

<span> <h2 class="sectHeading">Women for Change (WFC) Programme<br></h2></span> <p>WFC is a development programme, which aims to empower women to play a more meaningful/active role in their local communities. It is open to all vulnerable women and women who are tenants in the City’s rental stock in particular. Women are recruited, trained and deployed throughout the city to help uplift areas where City-owned rental stock is situated. <br></p><p> The programme facilitates personal growth, provides opportunities to learn new skills, and enables women to take up full-time employment and/or entrepreneurship opportunities.</p><h4>Participants in the programme receive training and education in: </h4><ul><li>disaster risk management </li><li>foetal alcohol syndrome </li><li>domestic violence <br></li><li>wellness and health promotion </li><li>solid waste management </li><li>self-defense </li><li>leadership </li><li>how to approach disability in a sensitive manner<br></li></ul><h4>The women are employed through the <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/work%20and%20business/jobs-and-skills-development/youth-careers/find-an-opportunity-with-epwp">Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP)</a> and are also tasked with:</h4><ul><li>identifying and helping to address safety concerns in their environment </li><li>logging service requests related to the upkeep of their buildings and surrounding streets, including littering, dumping, and graffiti removal </li><li>providing home-based care services to the elderly <br></li><li>identifying individuals at risk of social challenges like truancy, substance abuse and domestic violence and linking them with relevant services<br></li></ul><p>To participate in the WFC Programme, you must be registered on our Jobseekers Database. Follow the link below to find out how.<br></p> <span> <div class="notification with-heading white-copy yellow bg-darker-grey"><div class="graphic"> <i class="info citycard"></i></div><div class="desc"><h4>City Connect</h4><p> <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/City-Connect/Find-a-job-or-develop-skills/Apply-for-a-job-with-the-City/Apply-for-work-through-the-EPWP">Apply for work through EPWP</a><br></p></div></div></span> <h2 class="sectHeading">Men and Masculinity Programme</h2><p>The Men and Masculinity Programme is aimed at both young and adult men, and explores a number of social aspects linked to violence against women and children, including: <br></p><ul><li>gender relations as shaped by culture, tradition and religion; </li><li>substance abuse; </li><li>HIV/AIDS; </li><li>parenting; and </li><li>cultivating positive role models</li></ul><p>The programme encourages men to take on a positive role in their households and communities. We urge men to join and strengthen existing efforts to reduce and prevent high levels of violence in their communities - particularly violence against women and children. </p><h4>The programme aims to:<br></h4><ul><li>Enable men to reflect on how socialisation, culture, tradition and religion affect the relationship between women and men.</li><li>Allow for open discussions about substance abuse and how it relates to violence against women and children. </li><li>Encourage fathers to participate in caring for their children and provide models for fatherhood.</li></ul><p>At the end of the programme, men are able to initiate similar programmes and share what they have learned with other men in their communities. Communities involved in partner organisations are also invited to join.<br></p> <span> <h2 class="sectHeading">Programmes for older persons</h2></span> <p>Poverty affects the roles of older people in their households.
