Xanthea Limberg has been serving on the City Council for the past thirteen years. In January 2019, she was appointed to the Mayoral Committee overseeing Water and Waste. Prior to this, she was the Mayoral Committee member Informal Settlements, Water and Waste Services, and Energy Portfolio from 2017-2018 and served as Mayoral Committee Member for the Corporate Services and Compliance Directorate between 2014 and 2016.

Preceding this, Alderman Limberg served as portfolio chairperson for the Economic Development, Environment and Spatial Planning Portfolio as well as the Energy and Climate Change Committee.

Alderman Limberg was elected National Deputy President of SALGA in 2022 and continues to serve in this position.

She also served as City representative on the Cape Peninsula University of Technology Council and served as the Finance and Risk Chair of the South African Renewable Energy Business Incubator. She also serves on a range of other committees and specialised task teams with the aim of driving and developing policy and enhancing service delivery for the City’s residents.

Projects and departments

As Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Ald Limberg has oversight over the following areas:

  • Sustainable Energy Markets - to provide cheaper and cleaner energy
  • Generation and Distribution - to provide uninterrupted supply of electricity to residents and businesses
