Local area frameworks, policies and guidelines
We have developed Local Spatial Development Frameworks (LSDFs) for various designated local areas in Cape Town. For quick links to all local area frameworks, policies and guidelines please see individual planning districts below.
About
A Local Spatial Development Framework (LSDF) is a forward planning tool that:
- guides development for a specified area;
- formulates a spatial vision for the desired future of that area; and
- provides stakeholders with policy statements and guidelines to inform decision-making and direct investment for that area.
Please note
LSDFs do not replace the existing legal requirements for land use planning and environmental regulations, and only become effective once approved by Council.
Other frameworks, plans, policies and guideline documents with various titles took on the role of a LSDF in the past. All of these documents aimed to guide spatial development, and provide further detail and contextualised guidance based off higher order spatial policies, including the relevant District Plan (DSDF) and the Municipal Spatial Development Framework (MSDF) in the same way as a LSDF.
Some of the areas listed below have an active LSDF development process underway and formal approval for the LSDF is still pending. These LSDFs will include “(In progress)” in the title.
