Drought action: Pressure management in Bellville, Bellville South, Durbanville, Kuils River, Eikenbosch areasPressure-related work is planned to take place in the Kuils River and Eikenbosch areas
Zero pressure testing will be taking place on:

19 June 2018: Blomtuin (Bellville CBD) between 20:00 and 04:00

21 June 2018: Sacks Circle (Bellville South) between 20:00 and 04:00

23 June 2018: Vierlanden, Durmonte, Klein Nederburg, Bergsig and Wellway Park in the Durbanville area

Pressure-related work is also planned to take place in the Kuils River and Eikenbosch areas on Thursday 21 June 2018 from 10:00 to 16:00. These areas are bounded by Langverwacht Road to the north, Foxhound Road to the west, Manhattan Road to the east and Simmons Road to the south.

The City has identified 25 areas across the city that could benefit from this technology over the coming months and contractors have been brought in to speed up the programme.

Not only does pressure management generally lower consumption by reducing the rate at which water flows to properties, it also reduces leaks and pipe bursts by better ensuring that pressure remains within levels that the pipework can tolerate, and reduces the rate of loss from leaks and bursts.

Please store only up to 10 litres of water for essential usage if required. However, residents living in the affected areas are urged not to stockpile large volumes of municipal water. This is because if there are any significant service interruptions, they are not expected to be in effect for long periods.

Please also keep taps closed to prevent water damage in the event of water being restored after a disruption.

At all times careful consideration will be given to ensure minimal disruption to the water supply in the affected areas.

The City regrets any inconvenience caused.

End

2018-06-18T22:00:00Z1

Dam levels rising, but too early to let up on water savingsAs at today, Monday 18 June 2018, Cape Town’s collective water usage over the past week was 520 million litres of water per day.
The good rainfall we have received over the past four weeks has increased our dams’ storage to the same levels they were at towards the end of winter of 2017. While this is good news, it is too soon to know what supply level is needed in order to safely navigate the summer of 2019. It is therefore critical that we continue to keep our consumption low.

The City of Cape Town urges all of its residents to keep on saving even if it is raining. The National Government’s restrictions on abstractions from the dams remains in effect.

‘The innovation on water-saving consumption that we’ve seen from residents, businesses and this local government has been quite phenomenal. We ask them to keep up with this effort until the dams reach assured levels of supply.

‘The City’s advanced pressure management roll-out continues to have a positive effect on water usage and is now saving on average 70 million litres a day.

‘We will continue rolling out our advanced pressure management programme across the metro to ensure that consumption remains in the lowest ranges possible. An assessment of our overall water situation will be done at the end of the winter rainfall season to determine whether restrictions can be adjusted. At this stage, the new normal of enhanced water conservation remains business-as-usual, as we cannot predict what the rest of the winter season will bring,’ said the City’s Deputy Executive Mayor, Alderman Ian Neilson.

Please visit www.capetown.gov.za/thinkwater for all water-related information and follow https://twitter.com/CityofCTAlerts for pressure management-related information specifically.

Please always check with your neighbours whether they too are experiencing low water pressure or intermittent supply disruptions as this would in all likelihood be pressure-related.
