Covid-19 updates

Covid-19 update: masks and gatherings regulations repealed

On Monday, 22 June 2022 the requirement to wear masks and to limit the size of gatherings was repealed by the Minister of Health. It is now no longer mandatory to wear a mask, and both indoor and outdoor events may operate at capacity. Restaurants, bars and other establishments are also able to operate without restriction on venue capacity.

Vaccination booster

National government recently approved booster vaccinations for both the Johnson and Johnson (J&J) and Pfizer vaccines.

Use our handy tool to check if you are eligible for a booster dose.
booster check
What is a booster dose?

A vaccine booster is administered to a vaccinated population that has completed a primary vaccination series (currently one or two doses of Covid-19 vaccine depending on the product) when, with time, the immunity and clinical protection has fallen below a rate considered sufficient in that population. The objective of a booster dose is to restore vaccine effectiveness.

Why do I need a booster dose?

There is some evidence that the protection from the primary series of vaccine wanes overtime. Therefore, it is important to get a booster dose to protect yourself from severe Covid-19, especially if you are older than 60 or have comorbidities. For a detailed list of comorbidities go to www.cdc.gov/coronavirus.

When do I qualify for the booster dose?

If you have received one dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, you can get a booster shot two months after the first dose. If you received two Pfizer doses, you can get a booster shot three months after the second dose. You are free to choose either the J&J or the Pfizer vaccine for your booster shot, regardless of the vaccine you received previously.

Additional booster doses available

The XBB.1.5 Omicron sub-variant that has been described as the most transmissible to date is in South Africa.
