Unlocking tourism’s potential through technology
Cape Town Tourism’s Social Media Platforms boast a following of nearly one million users.

By analysing the digital data, we are able to make informed decisions around what users are searching for, what they are clicking on, and what is the most popular type of content they are searching for. Therefore, data-driven decisions are key to attract the discerning traveller.

Approximately 70% of users are accessing digital platforms via Mobile devices. This type of data then determines what our mobile-first approach should be, and how we package content and information on our platforms.

Our strategy is to enhance awareness about Cape Town as a preferred destination and in turn stimulate local economic activity.
Through our service level agreement with Cape Town Tourism, we aim to introduce a variety of products and services, including action-packed adventures and unique experiences to cultural attractions.

These locations within Cape Town are not only picturesque and rich with diversity, but is also home to some of the best of South Africa’s tourism attractions.

Currently, the Cape Town Tourism visitor interfacing website attracts nearly two million visitors a year.
These visitors include mostly South Africans and an ever-growing number of international visitors, specifically from the US and UK. The recorded analytics indicated that visitors spend most of their time looking for accommodation recommendations. They also spend quite a lot of time looking for information on current events and what is happening in the city. This is followed by culinary options.

But by far, content related to pocket-friendly experiences are the most read pieces on the Cape Town Tourism website.
Without a doubt, such tourism initiatives lead to the development of local enterprises, increase the demand for goods and services, and contributes to much needed employment.

Ultimately it is about developing routes through a variety of activities and attractions that will connect communities to the economic and entrepreneurial opportunities that the tourism industry offers.

There is a huge trend worldwide to focus on user generated content which is in line with our focus. We want Capetonians to promote their city to visitors and in doing so, visitors will get an inside look into the local experience. This can be accomplished by using user generated content through images, written pieces, and collaborating with various creatives for Instagram takeovers.

Content is becoming more current, fun, and informative and is being presented in a user-friendly way. Therefore, my strategy is to enhance awareness of our destination and stimulate local economic activity.

We have to move with the changing times and stay ahead of the curve. Travellers are also getting younger which means they are more tech-savy, so we need to cater for the manner in which they consume data, or we will miss this growing travel market.

End
2019-10-21T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#0f794aab-8ac2-46f6-8dda-f97adf1462bd;L0|#00f794aab-8ac2-46f6-8dda-f97adf1462bd|tourism;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#f3223853-467d-44ec-a9b7-a222a9930e88;L0|#0f3223853-467d-44ec-a9b7-a222a9930e88|technological innovation1
