Solid Waste services to be suspended city-wide on Monday 27 July

The City of Cape Town’s Solid Waste Management Department has taken the decision to suspend city-wide refuse collection services and close all City drop-offs tomorrow, Monday 27 July, due to threats of intensifying protest action.

City staff and vehicles have increasingly become targets of attack amidst outbreaks of violence, and it is because of this climate that this drastic decision was made.
 
Residents are assured the City is making every effort to ensure the service can resume by Tuesday 28 July.
 
Residents and businesses who have their bins emptied on Mondays should please keep their refuse on their property, and await further instruction via the City’s website and social media platforms.
 
Unfortunately limited refuse collection in areas not directly affected by protests will not be possible as many staff are facing challenges travelling to and from work related to the ongoing unrest and threats of a lockdown.
 
The refuse collection backlog will be cleared as soon as possible, and residents are urged to please not resort to illegal dumping.
