Also, the use of personal protective equipment like masks has been something to get used to,’ said Howell.
In her day to day functions, Howell focuses on COVID-19 awareness and tracing and following up with contact cases.

Some of the interventions she has been part of have included blitzes at Public Interchanges, a Health Care Risk Waste Blitz operation, which she describes as quite an experience, as well as being on the health promotions team that did duty at the Strandfontein Temporary Shelter.

‘A lot of what we are involved in is really stressful, not only because of the physical environment and the new risks that the pandemic has brought to the fore, but also because of the increased risk to our personal safety. But I try to always remain positive and draw inspiration from my team.

‘One should always stay focused and on guard, for the sake of public safety, but also your own. If I could share one message with the public, it would be to ensure that they know the do’s and don’ts around COVID-19 and to stay at home and follow the safety guidelines,’ added Howell.

Thank you to our essential staff members!
Leave your message.

If you would like to leave a message to our champions like Shahnaz Howell, go to: www.capetown.gov.za/coronavirus

Please note that the City may publish comments shared on this platform.
2020-06-23T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#1e68fc62-0171-4b20-9e19-5d772981dfd0;L0|#01e68fc62-0171-4b20-9e19-5d772981dfd0|staff;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#6eb3cc57-d82f-4faf-bdcd-4ee1029ecc9e;L0|#06eb3cc57-d82f-4faf-bdcd-4ee1029ecc9e|health and safety;GP0|#d0424a98-68c9-49ee-8bf8-52a77c5bdf45;L0|#0d0424a98-68c9-49ee-8bf8-52a77c5bdf45|service1
