Construction of new housing project in Delft commences<span>​<figure class="figure-credits left"><img class="responsive" alt="placeholder" src="" style="width:576px;" /><figcaption> <p>© City of Cape Town</p> </figcaption> </figure><p>Today’s sod-turning marked the start of construction for The Hague Phase 2 and Eindhoven housing project in Delft, which will boast 1 100 Breaking New Ground homes.<br> <br>An investment of approximately R148 million has been set aside for this project, which will be built over 18 months. <br> <br>The project forms part of the greater Delft Integrated Housing Project, which also includes The Hague Phase 1 and Roosendal housing project.<br> <br>The construction of Phase 1 is already under way and will run concurrently with Phase 2. </p><span><figure class="figure-credits right"><img class="responsive" alt="placeholder" src="" style="width:576px;" /><figcaption><p>© City of Cape Town</p> </figcaption> </figure><p>L  Phase 1 will eventually consist of 1 012 BNG houses, at an estimated cost of R126 million. To date, 266 houses have already been handed over to beneficiaries.<br> <br>The Roosendal housing project in Delft has already been completed and has provided 288 beneficiaries with homes.<br> <br>‘We are very excited to be witnessing all the plans and hard work of our officials transitioning into reality, which will eventually empower some of our most vulnerable residents as first-time property owners.<br> <br>‘A sod-turning is always a joyful occasion because it symbolises the first steps towards a new beginning for our beneficiaries. Our team is making every effort to ensure that this project stays on track so that we can bring our beneficiaries home,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport and Urban Development, Councillor Brett Herron.<br> <br>The houses will be handed over in stages to beneficiaries who have been selected in accordance with the City of Cape Town’s Allocation Policy and the housing database to ensure a fair, transparent and equitable allocation of housing opportunities. </p><span>​<figure class="figure-credits left"><img class="responsive" alt="placeholder" src="" style="width:1154px;" /><figcaption><p>© City of Cape Town</p> </figcaption> </figure>‘We want to thank the beneficiaries of this project for waiting patiently for their housing opportunities. They will be contacted when their houses are ready for occupation. They are therefore encouraged to ensure that their most recent contact details are registered on the City’s housing database,’ said Councillor Siyabulela Mamkeli, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Area Central.<br>                                                                                                                                         <br>Eskom will also roll out the electrical infrastructure in phases as the construction of the houses continues.<br> <br>This housing project is in line with the City’s Organisational Development and Transformation Plan, which was adopted by Council to improve how the administration works, with a focus on transit-oriented development.<br> <br>The housing project is located between Delft Main Road and Stellenbosch Arterial.<br> <br>‘This project is located along a public transport corridor, which will make the area accessible for the residents.
