The Chairperson addressed the meeting as follows:
“REPORT BACK ON COVID-19 MATTERS
Let me start off by saying that I would very much like to concentrate on one specific issue in my opening address – that is the topic of COVID-19.
As a country and as a city, we have had to endure so much in a short space of time. All of us have been affected by this pandemic in so many ways and I would like to salute each and everyone for the tremendous courage and understanding during this difficult time.
Although we have many positive cases, I would also like to emphasise that many people have fully recovered from this virus.
In our communities, we have many residents and leaders who are offering up their time to assist those in need and I would like to thank all of them for their efforts. I am very thankful that we have such wonderful residents who are willing to offer their time to look after their communities during such a difficult time.
I would also like to say a very special thank you to our essential teams who have been working around the clock during lockdown to ensure that service delivery continues. The City of Cape Town should be proud of their staff who are always willing to go the extra mile.
With the wet weather approaching, we have experienced flooding in some areas in the Valley. I would like to ensure all of you that the City has been assisting with these flooding incidents and we will continue to do so throughout the winter season.
Going forward, I would like to encourage everyone to continue to support each other and to always show a caring attitude to those who are less fortunate than ourselves. May we always keep the very young, the sick and the elderly in mind and may we always show willingness to assist wherever we can – this is what will make us a better City.
Take care, keep warm and be safe.
I thank you.”
