Metro Police Department<p> <strong>Canine Unit </strong> <br>Our highly trained dog unit work alongside all law enforcements agencies to combat the illicit drug trade and keep Cape Town safe. Our dogs can sniff out drugs, locate dropped or concealed objects during criminal incidents, follow tracks and chase criminals. </p><p> <strong>Strategic Surveillance Unit </strong> <br>Our SSU now monitors 560 cameras throughout Cape Town, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The CCTV unit works closely with the Camera Response Unit and alerts its members when crime, traffic and by-law infractions, and fires are observed as well as supplying SAPS investigators with requested footage via a structured process.</p><p> <strong>Equestrian Unit </strong> <br>Our highly trained equestrian unit work within the city to combat crime in busy areas as well as at events. </p><p> <strong>Gang Unit </strong> <br>Our Gang Unit comprises of a group of specialised Metro Police officers who have been handpicked to work on gang-related safety issues. They solely focus on combating drug dealing and gangsterism in the Cape Flats. We identify gangs and drug hot spots; build profiles of gangs and drug dealers; coordinate the execution of integrated search warrants; obstruct gang and drug networks with road blocks; participate in local drug action committees; and contribute generally to restorative justice.</p><p> <strong>Tactical Response Unit</strong><br>Our Tactical Response Unit is a specialised team who respond to violent crime and focus on so-called ‘red zones’ and crime hot spots.</p><p> <strong>Substance Abuse Enforcement Unit</strong> <br>Working alongside all law enforcements agencies, we help combat the illicit drug trade. </p><p>​We, the Cape Town Metropolitan Police Department, work continuously to enforce traffic laws, by-laws and prevent crime for the benefit of you – the residents and visitors to the beautiful Mother City.
