Temporary, partial closure of Wynberg depot could impact fixing of streetlights, low voltage outages

The City of Cape Town’s Wynberg Electricity Depot has been partially closed after staff members tested positive for COVID-19.

It is foreseen that full service will resume on Friday, 7 August 2020 or as soon as it is safe to do so after the necessary decontamination of the affected section of the depot has been done and the mandated period of self-isolation has concluded. The depot’s partial closure will unfortunately affect some service request response times and we wish to thank our residents for their patience and understanding during this time.

Affected services will include single and multiple streetlight outages, cable faults and low voltage maintenance. However, the City will continue to prioritise faults which involve loss of supply so that residents and businesses may continue uninterrupted.

Areas across the metro that will be affected include Rondebosch, Claremont, Newlands, Kenilworth, Wynberg, Ottery, Constantia, Parkwood, Hout Bay and Llandudno.

‘Some sections of the Wynberg Depot will remain closed until deep cleaning and disinfecting of the affected areas in the facility and vehicles have been completed in line with the COVID-19 regulations. City officials who have been in close contact with the affected staff members are required to self-isolate. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused and thank City customers for their support. We wish our staff all the best with their recovery,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Energy and Climate Change, Councillor Phindile Maxiti.
