Officials will, at the meeting next week, explain the process going forward and there will be an opportunity for attendees to ask questions, and share their views on the spatial vision they have for District Six. I want to encourage all to please participate in this very important process,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Marian.

The 2012 District Six Spatial Development Framework will form the basis of the upcoming workshops. The plan is available on the City’s website, and can be perused in advance.

‘The redevelopment of District Six is one of the most important redress projects we will see in Cape Town in coming years. The National Government is responsible for the construction of the houses for beneficiaries and the restitution process. The City’s role is to refine and finalise the LSDF for this area and we will do so in collaboration with residents. The local neighbourhood plan is very important as this plan will determine the look and feel of District Six long after the houses for beneficiaries have been built. The LSDF will focus on the location and design of public open spaces, how the area connects with surrounding neighbourhoods, the land uses and future developments, the provision of public facilities and roads, and so forth,’ said Alderman Nieuwoudt.

The online presentations will be screened at the five venues.

Attendees at the venues are advised that the wearing of face masks is compulsory; temperature screening will be done on arrival; attendees will be required to complete a contact form and use hand sanitiser; and social distancing will be observed in line with COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

End

2020-10-13T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#df7359f0-0d0f-46e0-b90f-d487358df9bb;L0|#0df7359f0-0d0f-46e0-b90f-d487358df9bb|district six;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb;GP0|#0ab901dc-08fc-4328-86e9-d67d3a0317b4;L0|#00ab901dc-08fc-4328-86e9-d67d3a0317b4|spacial planning and land use management1
