Mayor Dan Plato congratulates new SA heavyweight champion<p></p><p>‘I would like to congratulate Mr Fick on this achievement. Hearing his story, I came to understand that this was a deeply significant moment, as he fulfilled a promise made to his late father of becoming the best heavyweight boxer in the country. It proves that if you work hard and never give up, you can accomplish the goals you want to achieve. It also sets an example to others who can view this as motivation, especially for the youth. I have often said that sport is a way to a better life and it teaches life skills such as discipline and the value of hard work,’ said Mayor Plato.</p><p>Mr Fick was born in 1984 and became a professional boxer three-and-a-half years ago. There were numerous challenges and obstacles leading up to this moment, including injury, lockdown and postponements, among others. The City commends his commitment and perseverance to fulfil this dream, which at times seemed out of reach. </p><p>The City of Cape Town wishes Mr Fick well in his future endeavours and may you continue to hold the SA flag high. </p><span><div class="image-gallery-slider img-gal-1" id="img-gal-1" data-slides="3" data-slide="1" style="height:493.5px;"><div class="image-gallery-content" style="height:414px;"> <figure class="itemSlide slide-left slide-1"> <img class="responsive" src="http://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Centre/BeltMayorBoxer15Dec2020.jpg" alt="" style="width:887px;" /> <figcaption class="image-slide-text" style="display:none;"> <p> <a title="title" href="#"> <b></b></a>Mayor Dan Plato greets Tian Fick while holding the champion belt</p> </figcaption> </figure> <figure class="itemSlide slide-left slide-2"> <img class="responsive" src="http://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Centre/MayorTianBoxerDuo15Dec2020.jpg" alt="" style="width:964px;" /> <figcaption class="image-slide-text" style="display:none;"> <p> <b></b>SA Heavyweight Champion Tian Fick with Mayor Dan Plato</p> </figcaption> </figure> <figure class="itemSlide slide-left slide-3"> <img class="responsive" src="http://resource.capetown.gov.za/cityassets/Media%20Centre/MayorTianFickGroup15Dec2020.jpg" alt="" style="width:960px;" /> <figcaption class="image-slide-text" style="display:none;"> <p> <b></b>(From left) Coach Matt Leisching, Tian Fick, Mayor Dan Plato, boxing promoter Jackie Brice and Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Opportunities and Asset Management James Vos.</p> </figcaption> </figure> </div><div class="image-gallery-control"><div class="image-gallery-caption"><p> <a title="title" href="#"> <b>Aerial view of Cape Town</b></a> - Loren ipsum dolor sit amet loren ipsum dolor sit amet Loren ipsum dolor sit amet.</p></div><div class="image-gallery-nav"><div class="nav-info">1 of 3</div><div class="slide-next"> <i class="icon arrow-white-next"></i> </div><div class="slide-prev"> <i class="icon arrow-white-prev"></i></div></div></div></div></span><p> </p><p>Caption 1: SA Heavyweight Champion Tian Fick with Mayor Dan Plato<br>Caption 2: Mayor Dan Plato greets Tian Fick while holding the champion belt<br>Caption 3: (From left) Coach Matt Leisching, Tian Fick, Mayor Dan Plato, boxing promoter Jackie Brice and Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Opportunities and Asset Management James Vos.</p><p><br><strong>End</strong></p>2020-12-14T22:00:00ZGP0|#1d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70;L0|#01d539e44-7c8c-4646-887d-386dc1d95d70|City news;GTSet|#62efe227-07aa-45e7-944c-ceebacca891dGP0|#90b49a62-96e2-436a-9c68-187c9ab33534;L0|#090b49a62-96e2-436a-9c68-187c9ab33534|Mayor;GTSet|#2e3de6c1-9951-4747-8f53-470629a399bb10
