City seeks clarity on amended national regulations related to informal traders

Statement by the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Management, Alderman Grant Twigg

The City of Cape Town has written to the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, to seek urgent clarity regarding informal traders being referred to in the amended national regulations.
 
The Minister in her statement refers to informal traders in general but also speaks about informal food traders, which is also very broad.

This clarity is needed as it is important for the City to manage its processes and implement the national regulations as amended.

As a City, we have one clear objective in mind –to stop the spread of COVID-19, and to collectively, as a country, help save lives.

We know that the national regulations were created for this reason and the amendments are done with that ultimate aim in mind – to continue keeping us all safe.

From the outset, the City has shown our full support to National Government for the lockdown and we are doing everything we can to help ensure that the national regulations are enforced.
