Cape Town dam levels decline 1,6% for the past week

Dams supplying the Cape metro have declined 1,6% for the past week (27 January – 2 February 2020) bringing the level down to 70,3%. Read more below:

Water consumption for the same period has also dropped to 738 million litres/day. Consumption the previous week was at 742 million litres/day.

The declining dam levels could be attributed to the very hot and windy weather conditions that have been experienced recently.
 
‘Regarding possible changes to the level of water restrictions, the City currently awaits confirmation of our water allocation for the 2019/20 hydrological year from the National Department of Water and Sanitation. Once this has been confirmed, an announcement will be made on what restrictions will be necessary to stay within this allocation,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Waste, Alderman Xanthea Limberg.
