Dance and drama
Many of our community centres offer classes and activities for residents who are interested in dance and drama. The activities of the programmes differ depending on the facility, but you can expect everything from hip-hop classes to lessons in performing arts.
Dance classes
African contemporary dance for kids
African contemporary dance is a combination of a variety of traditional African dances and modern dance. A trained instructor offers African contemporary dance classes for children.

Atlantis Schools Drum Majorettes
Learn how to twirl a baton, march and dance to music as a drum majorette.

Ballroom dancing
Ballroom dancing classes take place at a number of our facilities, where you will learn basic steps and some traditional ballroom dances. You may even get a chance to perform! Please visit a facility page from the list below for individual programme schedules:

Breakdancing
Breakdancing classes are taught by five semi-professional breakdancers who often go overseas to take part in breakdancing competitions. Boys and girls aged 12 and older are welcome to attend the classes. Sometimes the instructors enter the kids in junior breakdancing competitions.

Hip-hop dancing

Line dancing
Get fit while you learn a form of dance performed by cowboys, cowgirls and those who enjoy a good rodeo. Wear comfortable shoes. Yona Yethu club
Yona Yethu is a dance club where youth in the community can get together to teach and learn traditional African dances. Members of Yona Yethu range from age six and upwards.

Drama classes
Ihlumelo
Ihlumelo is a performing arts club run by community members. Individuals of all ages practice a range of traditional and contemporary songs, dances and acting techniques, and perform at community functions and outside events

Performing arts classes
Performing arts include art forms such as drama, singing and dance, where performers use their voices and body movements as a form of expression.
