Spatial Trends Report

Spatial Trends Report

The City’s Urban Planning and Design Department releases a Spatial Trends Report annually. The report provides the latest information about land use development trends/patterns and change in Cape Town over time.

About the report

The Spatial Trends Report forms part of the monitoring and evaluation framework for the Metropolitan Spatial Development Framework (MSDF) and the eight District Spatial Development Frameworks (DSDFs)

Information in the report assists us to measure the impact of the spatial plans in relation to the development or growth of Cape Town. By using indicators and datasets contained in the report we can reflect, compare and monitor land development trends/patterns over time to enable proactive and responsive spatial planning and policy.

Please note

While the intention is to release a report on an annual basis, some indicators may remain static over subsequent reports, subject to source data availability and release periods.

What do we monitor/track?

The report includes two parts:

  • Part 1 - reports on spatio-temporal changes in respect of indicators linked to development and land use trends, and their alignment to MSDF and DSDF policy objectives and guidelines.
  • Part 2 - reports on indicators related to public investment projects and capital expenditure, and their alignment to the MSDF and DSDF Implementation Plans.

The thematic index highlights the various themes reported on in the documents.
