We boast strong infrastructure, excellent crews and seasoned officials – all of which make filming in Cape Town a smooth and easy process.</p></div><span> <h2 class="sectHeading">Book a film location</h2> <p> ​In our high season, October to April, we have a large number of local and international crews filming in and around the city, so we advise that you book your filming location and apply for your permit well in advance. </p> <span> <div class="notification with-heading dark-copy pink bg-light-grey"><div class="graphic with-border"> <i class="info note">​​​</i> </div><div class="desc"><h4>Please note</h4><p>When applying for a film permit, you are also applying for the rights to film in a public location. Details of the location will form part of your application.</p></div></div></span><span> <h2 class="sectHeading">​​​​​​​​​​When is a film permit required?</h2></span> <p> Film permits are required for film-related activity, commercial film, and video or still photo shoots conducted on public property such as roads and streets, sidewalks, parks, beaches or public buildings.</p> <p> <strong>A film permit is not required for:</strong></p> <ul><li>filming on residential or private property where there is no impact or film-related activity on public property;</li><li>employees of print or electronic media filming on-going news events; and</li><li>individuals filming footage for their own personal or private use.</li></ul> <span> <div class="notification with-heading dark-copy pink bg-light-grey"><div class="graphic with-border"> <i class="info note">​​​</i> </div><div class="desc"><h4>Please note</h4><p>If you are filming for your own personal use, you will need a permit if the filming takes place on public property and impacts negatively on citizens or on the environment.</p></div></div></span><span> <h2 class="sectHeading">​​​​​​​​​​Apply for a film permit<br></h2></span> <p> To apply for a film permit with the City of Cape Town, you will first need to register with the Cape Town Film Permit Office, either as a production company or an individual. You will need to sign an indemnity form and provide proof of public liability insurance. Once you have completed these steps, you will be able to sign on to use our <a href="http://web1.capetown.gov.za/web1/filmpermitsonline/" target="_blank">online film permitting system</a><i class="icon link-external"></i> to apply for your film permit.
