<h4>Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)</h4><p>We will require a risk assessment and a Covid-19 mitigation plan for every film location being used before a film permit is issued. Our law enforcement agencies will monitor compliance and advise production companies on the implementation of the Covid-19 mitigation and safety measures.</p><p>All those in the film industry, and those going out to film locations, must adhere to the protocols as well as all applicable regulations in terms of hygiene on set and social distancing to ensure the safety of everyone.<br></p>

<i class="info note"></i> </div><div class="desc"><h4>Covid-19 safety</h4><p>Our Film Permit Office, as part of its permitting process, has developed a
<a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Procedures%2c%20guidelines%20and%20regulations/CapeTownFilmOffice-COVIDStandardOperatingProcedures.pdf" target="_blank">Standard Operating Procedure for Film Production Safety</a>. The SOP includes basic safety measures that film companies must implement in the workplace to contain the spread of the coronavirus and protect employees.</p></div></div></span>
<h4>Production companies will be required to comply with the following actions, among others:</h4><ul><li>All staff, cast and crew must be screened daily at the start of each shift/shoot. A record of each persons daily temperature should also be kept.</li><li>Cloth masks or face shields must be provided for cast and crew</li><li>Covid-19 awareness information, including workplace protocols, must be displayed in common areas and copies provided to all staff</li><li>Ensure that 70% alcohol-based hand sanitiser is made available for all cast, crew and service providers on sets and workspaces </li><li>Only necessary permitted people should be allowed on set</li><li>Sets/workspaces must be disinfected regularly before and after filming</li><li>The number of people on set must not exceed the number of people allowed as per the Arts and Culture Ministry directions</li><li>Workplace equipment and props must be disinfected before they are returned to storage or service providers</li></ul><h2 class="sectHeading">When to apply</h2><p>You will need a permit if your shoot:</p><ul><li>interrupts traffic on municipal roads or pedestrians on sidewalks;</li><li>requires wires or cables running across or over sidewalks or municipal roads;</li><li>requires the use of generators, tripods or dollies on sidewalks or municipal roads;</li><li>impacts on public use of, or access to, public parking areas, community facilities, beaches, public open spaces, and nature reserves under City management; or</li><li>generates noise and air pollution.</li></ul><p>There are two processes you will have to undergo in order to be able to apply for a film permit — registering as a production company or commercial photographer, and apply for a permit using the City’s
<a href="http://web1.capetown.gov.za/web1/filmpermitsonline/" target="_blank">online film permit system<i class="icon link-external"></i></a>. </p><h2 class="sectHeading">Register with the Cape Town Film Permits Office (CTFPO)<br></h2>

<strong>Step 1:</strong> Download the
<a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Forms%2c%20notices%2c%20tariffs%20and%20lists/2012_Company_Reg_and_Indemnity_Formsv2.pdf" target="_blank">Registration and Indemnity Form</a> to register as a production company or commercial photographer with the CTFPO.</p>
<p>Complete it to the best of your ability and make sure you have all the additional documents required.</p>

<strong>Step 2:</strong> Once you have completed the form and are sure that all the information is in place, you can submit the application form and additional documentation to the CTFPO via email to

<p>You will be notified once your application has been approved and you will need to renew your registration every year.</p>

<h2 class="sectHeading">How to apply</h2></span>
<p>Applying for a film permit is a crucial step in the filming process. The City’s online application system has streamlined this process, making it easier and more efficient.</p>
<p>All applications for a film permit must be submitted on the
<a href="http://web1.capetown.gov.za/web1/filmpermitsonline/" target="_blank">City’s online Film Permit System</a>. Before applying for a film permit, please make sure that you have registered as a user on the online film permit system.</p>
<p>
<strong>Step 1:</strong> Visit the
<a href="http://web1.capetown.gov.za/web1/filmpermitsonline/">online film permit system<i class="icon link-external"></i></a>.</p>
<p>
<strong>Step 2:</strong> Complete each step of the booking process, providing as much information and detail as possible and then submit it.</p>
<p>
<strong>Step 3:</strong> The City will log, confirm and process the booking and engage with you and relevant role-players.</p>
<p><strong>Step 4:</strong> Once the booking has been confirmed, the CTFPO will assist with the identification and coordination of all approvals. It will also set the conditions of the permit.</p>
<p><strong>Step 5:</strong> The City will issue the permit once it has been approved, and send it to the email address you provided on the online booking system.</p>
