City opens more revenue, motor licensing offices but online services recommended
7 July 2020
The City of Cape Town has been opening customer offices in a staggered manner and in adherence to the COVID-19 regulations which aim to make operations safer for staff and customers.Apart from social distancing which the City encourages customers to adhere to, its offices are operating with a reduced staff complement in terms of COVID-19 regulations. This means not all counters are open at the same time and we can only process a limited number of transactions per day due to the reduced front-office personnel. We thank customers for their patience during this extremely difficult time and encourage the use of online services as an option to stay safe and avoid queues.
Today, 7 July 2020, the City opened its customer office in Khayelitsha. This brings the total number of offices in operation thus far to 19. As per the national COVID-19 regulations, our offices may only perform a limited amount of transactions per day and all counters will not be open at the same time, so where possible, we continue to encourage residents to visit customer offices only if it is very urgent and as early as possible in the day.
At our offices, we continue to serve the elderly, those with disabilities and pregnant women first. Offices operate between 08:00 and 15:30 during the week and some between 08:00 to 11:30 on a Saturday. Check the City's website or Facebook page ahead of time if unsure. Offices are also subject to rapid closure due to COVID-19 regulations when required. If transactions can be conducted via e-Services, please continue to do so.
Please note:
- Motorists who applied before 26 March 2020 and meet all the requirements will still receive their discs. The South African postal service has resumed but please be patient as they work through backlogs
- Motorists who applied after 26 March 2020 would need to reapply online. Please phone the City's Call Centre on 0860 103 089 to see if a particular office is open, alternatively visit www.capetown.gov.za
What to expect when visiting an office:
- COVID-19 screening at the entrances
- Limited number of customers allowed in at a time
- Social distancing is required and must be adhered to
- Limited daily transactions, please visit early in the day. Longer queues due to reduced staff per office as required by COVID-19 regulations
- Only your ID needed for Motor Vehicle Licensing and Registration renewals
