Water restrictions explained <span> <h2 class="sectHeading">​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Water restrictions</h2></span> <p>Even though our dam levels have increased, Cape Town remains in a water-scarce region vulnerable to drought. Protect our water resources by adhering to water restrictions and following water-wise guidelines.</p> <span> <div class="notification with-heading dark-copy pink bg-light-grey"><div class="graphic with-border"> <i class="info note">​​​</i> </div><div class="desc"><h4>Water restrictions</h4><p> <strong>No water restrictions are in effect from 1 November 2020</strong>. In terms of the <a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Bylaws%20and%20policies/Unofficial_Consolidated_Water_By-law_2010_2018.pdf" target="_blank">Water By-law</a>, <a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Procedures%2c%20guidelines%20and%20regulations/Water%20use%20regulations%20permanently%20in%20place_2020.pdf" target="_blank">permanent water-saving regulations </a>remain in place. Click on the link below to find out how to apply.</p> <span> <div class="notification with-heading white-copy yellow bg-darker-grey"><div class="graphic"> <i class="info citycard">​​</i></div><div class="desc"><h4>City Connect</h4><p> <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/City-Connect/Apply/Municipal-services/Water-and-sanitation/Apply-for-exemption-from-water-restrictions">Apply for a water restriction exemption</a></p></div></div></span> <h2 class="sectHeading">Alternative water sources signage​​​​​​​</h2><p>You must display appropriate signage at your property that is clearly visible to the public if you use <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/Family%20and%20home/Residential-utility-services/Residential-water-and-sanitation-services/alternative-water-sources"> alternative water sources</a>. </p><h4>Wellpoints and boreholes</h4><p>Wellpoints and boreholes should be registered with the City. Once registered, the City will send you the necessary display sign, free of charge.</p><p>Find out more about <a href="https://www.capetown.gov.za/City-Connect/Register/Water-and-sanitation/Register-a-borehole">registering a borehole or wellpoint</a>.</p><h4>Greywater, spring water or rainwater harvesting</h4><p>You can download, print and laminate the City’s <a href="https://resource.capetown.gov.za/documentcentre/Documents/Graphics%20and%20educational%20material/Non%20potable%20water%20sign.pdf" target="_blank">non-drinking water sign</a>. It should be printed A4 landscape.
