What we do
Our department forms part of the Finance Directorate, with the aim to supply quality services to all our citizens, serve the citizens of Cape Town as a well-governed and well-run administration, and be known as the efficient, effective and caring city.
Of the five Integrated Development Plan (IDP) strategic focus areas, we aim to contribute to ‘well-run city’. We strive to ensure Cape Town continues to be a well-run city by efficiently and effectively managing public resources, and making sure consumed services are correctly billed and that there are relevant processes to assist those who are in need of them.
We achieve this by ensuring that:

- accurate and transparent accounting processes and policies are in place and compliant with relevant legislations;
- there is management and control over the funds received by the City;
- elected officials can confidently take accountability for the public funds due and payable to the City;
- financial reporting is provided to the City, other stakeholders and the community in general;
- all outstanding monies are efficiently collected in a dignified and humane manner in terms of the Council’s Credit Control and Debt Collection By-law and Policy with indigent relief; and
- the approved policies and business processes to meet the Council’s objectives are all aligned.
