Apply for a wheelie bin
Property owners can apply for a 240 litre wheelie bin for the household, while relevant sectional title complexes can apply for the required number of bins that must be equal to at least one third of the total units in the complex.
Apply for a new bin
The registered property owner or property managing agent must download and complete the Supply of Services Application Form from the document downloads section below. Ensure that you fill in all the sections related to refuse removal.
If you are renting, you will need to submit a letter of authority from the property owner or managing agent with your application form.
Remember
You can mark your wheelie bin for identification purposes, but advertising on City wheelie bins without permission will result in a fine.
Submit your application with a certified copy of your ID at your nearest
Walk-in Centre or email it to
wastewise@capetown.gov.za.
Tenants living in Council rental stock must visit the nearest
housing office to apply for a new wheelie bin. Please remember to bring along your original ID.
Replace a stolen or damaged bin
Please note
A replacement wheelie bin is free, but if you are proven to have been negligent (leaving the bin on the pavement overnight, etc.) then you will be charged a replacement fee.
Send an email to
wastewise@capetown.gov.za with the following information:
- Municipal account number
- Residential address
- Name and contact number

If you are renting, include a letter of authority from the owner or managing agent.
You will be issued with a reference number and your new bin should be delivered within ten working days. The City will ensure that your waste is collected during the waiting period.

Apply for a lockable baboon bin

Lockable baboon-proof bins are available for those who live in baboon-affected areas. A Lockable bin will not only prevent baboons from gaining access to the waste in your bin, but also possibly deter troops from revisiting your property, once they realise there is no food available.
Waste services
If you are not currently billed for refuse removal services (i.e. you do not receive a monthly rates account) you will need to apply for waste services before you can apply for a lockable bin.
If you live in one of the following baboon-affected suburbs, you should apply for a baboon-proof bin (at no extra cost):
Constantia; Capri; Castle Rock; Da Gama; Gordon’s Bay; Imhoff’s Gift; Kommetjie; Misty Cliffs; Murdoch Valley; Ocean View; Pine Haven; Plateau Road; Scarborough; Simon’s Town; Smitswinkel Bay; Tokai; Welcome Glen; Zwaanswyk.
