Event greening
We ask that all organisers, venue staff and suppliers pay special attention to keeping their event as clean and green as possible. We want Cape Town to be the best events destination in South Africa, but we also want our city to be one of the cleanest and most eco-conscious in the world.
Manage your event waste
Make sure your event is as green as possible by making socially and environmentally responsible decisions when planning, running or participating in an event.
Please note
Be responsible and make sure you contract a recycling collector for your event where possible. Use our
waste recyclers app to find a recycling collector in your area. The City can also assist with the hiring of recycling bins for your event – find out more below.
You may need an
integrated waste management plan for your event, depending on the kind of event you are holding. This will include a plan for management and recycling of your event waste, as well as cleaning up the event area.

Hold a large event in the city
We also recommend that you consult with the
Events Department – as they can guide you around the permit application.
If you require waste collection and/or cleaning services for your event, or you want to hire recycling bins from the City, you can indicate the details in your application. We will respond with quotations for cleaning, waste collection and/or recycling bin hire.
If you don’t use our services, you will need to have a waste service provider who is accredited in terms of the City’s
Integrated Waste Management By-law and the
Amended Integrated Waste Management By-law.
