Air quality compliance

Air pollution is a key factor that affects the health of our city. Therefore, business activities that release or produce potentially harmful emissions must apply for a licence with the City. See the Air Quality Management By-law.

Permits and licences

Open burning permit
This permit is required if your business activities include conducting an open burn of any material on any land or premises.

Atmospheric emission licence (AEL)
You require an AEL if your facility is producing atmospheric emissions from stationary sources such as factory chimneys, and vehicles.

You can find detailed information on how to apply for an open burning permit or atmospheric emission licence by visiting our City Connect portal.
