31 learners from Lavender Hill Secondary School attended a Metro Police Youth CampAttended by 31 learners from Lavender Hill Secondary School, these camps form an integral part of the department’s social crime prevention programme.
Youth leaders were put through their paces while experiencing the outdoors. The youth camps are aimed at empowering young people with skills and knowledge to encourage leadership and promote crime prevention – imparting valuable skills in dealing with anti-social behaviour, decision making and how to deal with peer-pressure.
‘The Youth Leadership camp is a stepping stone for learners to enter into the Metro Police Youth Cadet programme. Each year 40 learners who attended youth camps are identified as possible candidates to be enrolled into the three year Cadet programme.
We are extremely proud of these young leaders who play an important role as ambassadors in assisting the City to promote a healthy and positive life by setting an example to fellow learners,’ said the Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
The schools participating in the Youth Camps are selected by the Western Cape Education Department.
