Youth leadership workshop held for Tafelsig High learners

13 May 2016

On Thursday, 12 May 2016 a leadership development workshop was held at Tafelberg High School in Mitchells Plain. The event was coordinated by Cllr Sheval Arendse (Ward 82) with support from the City of Cape Town’s Social Development and Early Childhood Development Department.

The workshop programme included presentations on youth leadership by Social Development (SD) officials aimed at challenging learners to think about how they could take action to improve their lives. Participants were divided into groups and asked to consider, for example, what it means to be a leader; and what leaders should do to succeed. The SD officials were on hand to assist the learners to devise a programme of action to put their ideas into motion.

The workshop concluded with a presentation from Cllr Arendse on the topic of “Don’t let racism speak for you”. The councillor urged learners to respect the rights of others and to speak out against racism.
