World’s finest triathletes head to Cape Town

​The Discovery World Triathlon Cape Town is part of the World Triathlon Series, an annual international series of triathlons in 9 cities across the world and is widely regarded as the pinnacle of triathlon events. The Cape Town-leg of the race will serve as the third stop on the nine-city tour, which kicked off in Abu Dhabi on 4 – 5 March 2016.

Every World Triathlon Series event features age-group races, with all elite women's and men's races broadcast live to an international audience in more than 160 countries, and is streamed live via the Internet.

With the world’s best triathletes using the event as preparation and as a qualifier for the 2016 Olympics in Rio, sport fans will witness the world’s finest pushing the boundaries to the limit.

2016 World Triathlon - Cape Town event

This year, spectators enjoying the event both on television and live in Cape Town will be treated to a gripping display by top triathletes as they seek to lay down a marker for Rio.

The Discovery Duathlon takes place on Saturday, 23 April, and its run-cycle-run format is aimed at newcomers to multisport events including families or people looking for an enjoyable athletic outing.

The Discovery World Triathlon for elite and accomplished athletes takes place on Sunday, 24 April, and includes a schools challenge. The route takes competitors around the V&A Waterfront and Green Point, with the Green Point Athletic Stadium providing an excellent venue for fans to get a good view of the thrilling race.
