Wetton CRU received maintenance and security upgrade

1 June 2016

The Aylesbury CRU Flats in Wetton have undergone a number of essential maintenance upgrades following on from community meetings with the City’s Human Settlements Directorate regarding the condition of the building. Cllr Monty Oliver facilitated these engagements and, with assistance from the senior superintendent for the Ottery Housing Maintenance Unit, Ronald Du Plessis, an upgrade of the CRU was approved.

The upgrades included repairs to leaking roofs, replacement of broken windows and repairs to damaged staircases along with other general maintenance repairs. In addition, the first section of a sturdy steel palisade perimeter fence was erected to improve safety for residents at a cost of R193 116. The second phase of the upgrade will see the completion of the fence, which will prevent undesirable elements from trespassing on the property and engaging in anti-social activities.

The residents expressed their thanks for the work that is being done.

‘We see now that the City listens to us and we can now tell the negative people that the flat committee is getting results,’ said one satisfied CRU resident.
