Water supply disruption expected as emergency repairs to pump station at Molteno Reservoir continues
19 July 2020
The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Department will be continuing with the emergency repairs to the pump station at the Molteno Reservoir from Monday 20 July night at 22:00 through to Tuesday 21 July at 06:00.The City’s Water and Sanitation Department will be conducting the second phase of emergency repairs at its major pump station at the Molteno Reservoir. This pump station transfers water to reservoirs higher up in Oranjezicht as well as to Kloofnek above Camps Bay, which supplies the Upper City Bowl, Camps Bay and other parts of the Atlantic Seaboard area.
This emergency work involves the replacement of a faulty valve critical to the operation of the pumps which transfer water to the areas above the Molteno Reservoir. This will require that the water supply to the Kloofnek and Oranjezicht reservoirs be shut down to enable the maintenance crew to safely do the replacement. One of the two pumps have undergone emergency repairs and the other is scheduled to be back in operation once the valve replacement has been completed on Tuesday morning.
The City is asking residents in the affected areas to please store water upfront in clean sealed containers for use during this period. Residents need to also please ensure that their taps are kept closed during this period to prevent water loss and/or damage when the water supply is restored.
Every effort is being made to restore the water supply as soon as possible under the prevailing conditions.
The City apologises for any inconvenience caused during this time. It is however imperative that the water supply infrastructure is maintained effectively to ensure a continued, reliable supply of drinking water to residents.
