Ward councillor delivers donation of much-needed stationery supplies to Mitchells Plain schools

13 May 2016

On Thursday, 12 May 2016 Cllr Sheval Arendse (Ward 82) visited AZ Berman High School in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain. The purpose of the visit was to deliver a donation of stationery supplies for use by learners who otherwise would not have access to basic educational necessities.

Cllr Arendse was received by Kevin Voges, the principal, who gratefully accepted the donation on behalf of the learners. The supplies included pencils, pens, writing pads, lever arch files, flip files, prestick, crayons, plastic sleeves and copy paper. The total estimated cost of the donation comes to R7 000 which was funded via the councillor’s truancy budget allocation.

Truancy officer draws attention to learners in need

“Ward 82 has had the privilege of employing a truancy officer for two years who would liaise with all of the schools in the area. It was brought to my attention that learners were not equipped for their daily writing needs. Since we still had funding available from the truancy allocation for the year, we were able to provide stationery for those schools most in need,” said Cllr Arendse.

The councillor will be visiting Cascade Primary and St Mary’s Primary shortly to deliver additional stationery supplies which will assist learners with their studies.
