On Monday 13 June 2016, certificates were awarded to Ward Committee Members for Wards 15, 17 and 109 in Subcouncil 22. The ceremony was officiated by Cllr Chantal Cerfontein, the subcouncil chairperson.

'Subcouncil 22 thanks the Ward Committee Members for the hard work and input they have given over the past 5 years of service to their communities. Their involvement with events and activities in their respective wards, whenever it was needed, did not go unnoticed,' said Cllr Cerfontein.

 

'I would also like to thank the following members who could not be present at the handover:

'As the Chairperson of Subcouncil 22, and on behalf of the City, I would like to urge interested groups to register on the Community Organisation Database (COD) in preparation of the establishment of the ward committees for the 2016 – 2020 Council term,' said Cllr Cerfontein.

 

Representatives from various sectors form the basis of each ward committee, with the ward councillor as the Chairperson. Ward Committees act as a formal part of the governance structure and assist Council in conducting public participation in terms of the City’s Integrated Development Plan (IDP).
