Two lanes along FW De Klerk Boulevard outgoing, at Lower Church reopened

FW De Klerk lanes reopened after bridge debris cleanup

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to advise that the two lanes which were closed along FW De Klerk earlier was due to the City’s Road Infrastructure Management Depot team and engineers being on-site to clean loose debris from the deck of the Lower Church road bridge. The bridge has now been cleaned, and the lanes were reopened ahead of peak traffic after a brief closure.

After a truck’s trailer clipped the overhead of the road bridge earlier today, the lanes are closed in the interest of public safety and the risk of concrete debris falling onto the roadway.

‘We can confirm that there are no structural concerns concerning the road bridge and our teams wanted to make sure that all concrete debris was cleared along the road bridge in the interest of our commuter’s safety, especially ahead of peak traffic this afternoon. The City will be investigating some additional preventative measures to supplement those that are already in place to warn heavy vehicle drivers ahead of both the foot and road bridge in the future, ‘said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
